RC-Pot recess for Noux

I’m really happy that we now have the whole chain from drawing (far left), into CAD/CAM and cnc milling (middle left) making high-tolerance (well, almost…) parts (middle right), which can be used as moulds for Noux components (far right). With some effort and determination you can now go from concept drawing to finished part in one weekend.

2006 Turku IOM Ranking

The small rigs came out of the rigbag for the 6th finnish ranking race of the season ! The first ranking race organized by TPS provided steady 10-12 m/s with gusts of up to 17 m/s and sunshine for 12 competitors.

Temp controller for curing box

Curing epoxy mouldings typically requires elevated temperatures (+ 40 to 70 C) for 4-12 h. Previously we have done this in a cardboard box with a car-heater continuously blowing hot air into the box. By adjusting the number and size of holes in the box the temperature can be crudely varied.

Here’s an attempt to create a better heater with temperature control.

Noux moulds

The latest IOM building activity in Finland: a group of builders in Turku have moulded a hull mould from the original Noux plug + designed their own deck plug and made a deck mould.

Building a wooden Noux

Inspired by the drawings and design info available on my site, and by Michael Scharmers article on iom-nordic.org, Peter Trimmer (AUS) is putting together a wooden Noux. He sent me some pictures of his progress.

Here is the plug for the bulb turned out of wood. A mould around this from plaster will be made and the bulb will be cast in lead.

CNC Milling of MDF Plug

Jari Immanen is making a plug for a Marblehead. This is our homebuilt CNC machine. It’s an Opti BF20 retrofitted with steppermotors. Geckodrives drive the steppers using the TurboCNC software.

IOM Bulb Mould plans

Our bulb moulds are CNC milled from aluminium and more than 15 bulbs have been made successfully from them.

Note that it could be useful to make the hole through which lead is poured in a little larger than shown on the plan.
