19k long slow run around lauttasaari on Saturday. Since the shoreline of an island is supposed to have a fractal dimension greater than one, it's possible to lengthen the run by following the shoreline more closely. Update: it seems both persons in our team got infected by Campylobacter from drinking some water from a local well. Lesson: use the water-purification tablets!
More orienteering, this time in Pornainen. Much less paths, roads, and other signs of urban life compared to central park in Helsinki. Finding our way based more on compass heading, and many times slowing down to a walk through terrain where it is hard or impossible to run. Searched quite a bit for nr 7, [...]
Did a 7km "iltarasti" orienteering course starting from Laakso. 16 controls in total, one and two were easy, then we stumbled on 19 when going for 3, then more or less ok on 4-8, a big miss on nr 9 (just at the top of the map) which features three almost identical 3-road intersections and [...]
It's been possible to run over the Crusell-bridge (just before 3 km) for some time now, but yesterday I found a new walk/bike path under the lauttasaari bridge (just after 4 km), east along the motorway (4-5 km) connecting to the usual lap around the old cemetary and the hietsu-beach. Rounded off a busy week with an organized 40k walk: kesäyön marssi. Walking is obviously not as stressful on the legs and fitness as running, but the script on a 40k walk is pretty much the same: if you are reasonably prepared you will make it until around 25k or 32k without much trouble, and [...]
Some of the ~10500 Helsinki city run finishers on Saturday 7.5.2011 at Helsinki olympic stadium: Ubuntu now seems to ship with hugin panorama creator which did a good job of merging these four C7shots.
Using the same scraping scripts I wrote after last years marathon, it was fairly easy to scrape the HCR website and produce some histograms.
